Objectives

– To provide delegates with an in depth understanding of the effects of flooding on children and young people. – To raise awareness of adults’ attitudes and assumptions that might be counter productive or unhelpful. – To identify specific actions for improving the experience of flood-affected children, young people and their families. – To explore delegates’ current views and enable participants to suggest and commit to new ways of responding to the issues raised.

Content

This interactive course will:
Consider the research into Children, Young People & Flooding undertaken by Lancaster University & Save the Children and how the outcomes might inform future attitudes and behaviours.

Look at prevailing attitudes, assumptions and stereotypes in various scenarios.

Facilitate discussion and debate on delegates’ experiences and how these relate to the research findings.
Identify routes to implementing meaningful changes and the challenges involved.
