PAD (PADSTONE)

An exterior slab constructed for the purpose of supporting equipment; a flat piece of stone, lumber or metal placed under a girder or beam to distribute the load over a wider area.


PAINT

A liquid solution of pigment in a vehicle of oil, organic solvent, or water, which dries to form an adhered, protective, and decorative coating.


PAINT GRADE

Mouldings which contain finger-joints, making them unsuitable for clear finishes.


PARASITIC FUNGI

Micro organisms that obtain their food by absorbing minerals, sugar and moisture from the living material (plant or animal host) on which they grow.


PARTIAL LOSS

An insured loss that does not completely destroy or render insured property worthless, or exhaust the insurance monies available to cover the loss.


PARTICULATES

Fine liquid (other than water) or solid particles such as dust, smoke, mist, fumes and fog found in air and emissions.


PARTITION

To form rooms or other divisions of an interior space with non-bearing walls.


PATHOGEN

A specific micro organism, such as a bacterium or virus, that causes disease in humans, animals or plants; e.g., influenza, chicken pox, measles, pulmonary tuberculosis, small pox (adj. pathogenic).


PAYEE

The party to whom money is paid, e.g., loss payee on an insurance claim.
