Syllabus

The Damage Management practitioner meets fresh challenges daily, each bringing its unique combination of technical problems and customer requirements. To be able to make valid decisions in these different circumstances the technician must be widely knowledgeable.

The syllabus is not intended to list everything the technician needs to know, but includes what we judge to be the most important knowledge areas practitioners will require in order to sit the examination. However, it is not suggested learning should be confined to what is covered here. The syllabus should be used as a guide to the minimum level of knowledge required to become competent in the core damage management disciplines and achieve professional accreditation.

In order to reach the required standards which will enable practitioners to sit the BDMA Technician or Senior Technician Examination they should study the BDMA Official Damage Management Training & Reference Module, together with the BDMA Standards and the information identified in the relevant BDMA Examination Syllabus.

All practitioners aiming to gain accreditation are advised to attend the relevant official BDMA Core Damage Management Training Course only available direct from the BDMA. Additional courses to support learning activity are identified throughout the syllabus.

We hope that studying in line with the syllabus, and following its recommendations for additional study and education, will provide the core knowledge that will increase technicians’ abilities, improve their job satisfaction and enable them to gain accreditation, recognition and respect as damage management professionals.

BDMA examinations are based on the examination syllabus and candidates should study this carefully prior to taking the exam. Download the BDMA examination syllabus – Technician, Insurance Technician, Commercial Technician or Claims Technician here.

Please note, the BDMA Technician Examination Syllabus can be downloaded from the website or ordered from BDMA Administration when applying for associate membership.

You will find specific information relating to the Senior Technician exam on page 14 of the Technician syllabus, but please bear in mind that the subject matter outlined in the main body of the syllabus will be covered in more depth and at a higher level in the Senior Technician exam.
